French authorities have revoked the residency permit of a 47-year-old Moroccan man who lit a cigarette from the flame of the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Paris. The incident sparked outrage and was condemned as disrespectful.

The man, who was legally residing in France with a permit valid until October 2025, was arrested and taken into custody. The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, described his act as 'indecent and miserable'.

The incident, which was captured on video by a tourist and went viral on social media, took place on Monday evening. The man admitted to his act.

The Minister of the Interior announced that the arrested man will be brought before justice, emphasizing that his act offends the memory of those who gave their lives for France.
