Piracy Attack on Greek-Owned Tanker off Somalia

A Greek-owned tanker, the HELLAS APHRODITE, was attacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia, as announced by the British maritime security company Ambrey on November 6, 2025.
The tanker, with a crew of 24, was sailing from Sikka, India, to Durban, South Africa, and was located 560 nautical miles southeast of Eyl, Somalia, at the time of the attack. The crew is safe and in good health.
Latsco Marine Management Inc., the ship's manager, confirmed the incident and stated that it has activated its emergency response team and is cooperating with the relevant authorities. The crew had locked themselves in the ship's citadel during the attack.
According to Ambrey, the pirates approached the tanker by boat and opened fire. They were operating from a small vessel with an Iranian flag, which they had seized.
The HELLAS APHRODITE is a 49,992 dwt product tanker, built in 2016 and registered in Malta.
