At least 15 tourists were injured, one seriously, in a collision between two trains near Machu Picchu in southeastern Peru. A Peruvian media outlet also reported that a train driver was killed.

The collision occurred at 13:20 (local time) on the railway line connecting the community of Ollantaytambo with Machu Picchu, in the Cusco region of the Andes.

The company Ferrocarril Transandino, which manages the railway line, said that two trains of Inca Rail and PeruRail collided, causing injuries and material damage. Videos sent by passengers show tourists sitting along the tracks and the two trains damaged.

Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, receives approximately 4,500 visitors per day.
