Portugal Heads to Polls for Presidential Runoff

Portugal is holding its presidential runoff election today, as voters are called to elect the successor to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Approximately 11 million voters are eligible to vote. Polling stations will close at 7 p.m. (local time), while in the Azores, voting will be extended for one hour.
António José Seguro, 77, from the center-left Socialist Party (PS), is considered the frontrunner against right-wing populist André Ventura.
In the first round, Seguro received 31% of the votes. Turnout in the second round is expected to be lower due to recent storms. The new president will take office on March 9.
