Meteorologist Nikos Kanteres warns of severe weather on Wednesday (April 1st) throughout Greece. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and a potential risk of flooding are expected in Attica and Thessaloniki.

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) is expected to issue an emergency weather warning. Civil Protection is urged to be on alert.

The main characteristics of the severe weather include:

  • Torrential rains and thunderstorms with long duration and intensity.
  • Risk of flooding, especially in urban centers.
  • Gale-force winds reaching 9 to 10 Beaufort.
  • Snowfall in mountainous areas.

Numerical models show two possible scenarios for the low's trajectory. The first scenario predicts the most intense phenomena in the Peloponnese, Central Greece (including Attica), Thessaly, Central Macedonia, Evia, Sporades, and Southwestern Crete. The second scenario shifts the core of the phenomena towards the Eastern and Central Aegean, as well as parts of Thessaly.

Giannis Kallianos points out the possibility of strong phenomena and the uncertainty about the exact trajectory of the low.

According to the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, rains and thunderstorms are expected throughout the country. Temperatures will range from -1 to 19 degrees Celsius.
