Fire Service Update: 4,850 Firefighters Respond to Multiple Active Fires

The Fire Service has provided an update on the ongoing fires across the country. According to Fire Service spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakogiannis, 152 new forest and agricultural fires have broken out in the last 48 hours.

4,850 firefighters are currently operating on the fire fronts. Weather conditions, with high temperatures and strong winds up to 9 Beaufort, are creating an extremely dangerous environment for the spread of fires.

34 alerts were issued by 112 for the evacuation of citizens in Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Arta, Preveza, Vonitsa, Aitoliko, Thessaloniki, Chios, and Achaia. The Hellenic Police, Coast Guard, and EKAV are assisting.

Mr. Vathrakogiannis urged citizens to follow the authorities' instructions closely and emphasized that the situation will be even more difficult in the coming days.
