Raouna: EU Needs Unity for Energy Security

The European Union needs unity for energy security in the face of geopolitical crises, stated Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, representing the Council of the Union in a related discussion at the European Parliament.
There is currently no immediate threat to Europe's energy supply, Ms. Raouna emphasized, however, the situation remains unstable and requires preparation for a possible further deterioration.
Referring to addressing the increases in energy prices, she noted that there is no simple or quick solution. She pointed out that the Commission and the member states are considering targeted, temporary, and economically viable measures to reduce the pressure on households and industry.
Energy Commissioner, Dan Jørgensen, stressed the need to strengthen the energy independence of the European Union. He noted that the Commission is taking targeted measures to protect citizens and the economy.
