Russia: Two Trains Derailed – One Engineer Dead

Two trains derailed early this morning in different areas of the Leningrad region, in western Russia, resulting in the death of one engineer and causing disruptions to train traffic, the regional governor announced.
These incidents occurred a few hours after an explosion on Saturday night on a section of the railway line in the western Oryol region, which killed three people.
"Rescue operations are underway after the derailment of a train near the Semrino station in the Gatchina area of the Leningrad region," Governor Alexander Drozdenko said on Telegram. "The engineer was killed. He was trapped in the cabin and succumbed to his injuries in the ambulance after being rescued," he added.
Furthermore, a freight train carrying 15 empty tank cars derailed in an area further south without causing any casualties, Drozdenko noted earlier. "Investigators are exploring the possibility of sabotage," he added.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, there have been repeated derailments, explosions, and fires on the Russian railway network, which Russian authorities attribute to Ukrainian sabotage.
Kyiv generally does not claim responsibility for these actions, although it often applauds them, arguing that Russia uses its railway network to transport troops and fuel to its forces fighting in Ukraine.
