One person was killed and eleven others injured today in a collision between a freight train and a bus in the Leningrad region of Russia.

"The bus driver entered the crossing in front of an approaching freight train," the Leningrad Regional Railway Directorate announced via Telegram.

"The train driver braked, but the distance was too short to avoid the collision." The railway administration stated that it was a regular bus, while the Russian news agency RIA reported that it was a tourist bus.

"According to initial information, 12 bus passengers were injured, and one of them died from their injuries," the statement said.
