4.8 Richter Earthquake Hits Crete

A strong earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale occurred in Crete, in an underwater area west of the island.
The epicenter of the tremor is located 56 kilometers west of Palaiochora, Chania. The earthquake occurred at a relatively large focal depth.
The tremor was recorded by seismographs of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens at 00:33 early Sunday morning.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre initially recorded the earthquake at 5.2 on the Richter scale before revising it.
