Earthquake in Turkey: One Dead, 29 Injured

One person has died and 29 were injured in a 6.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Balıkesir province in Turkey, Turkish authorities announced.
The 81-year-old died shortly after being rescued from the rubble, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who visited the town of Zender. The minister added that none of the injured are in serious condition.
In villages around Zender, 16 buildings, including residences and abandoned buildings, collapsed. The earthquake was felt in Istanbul and Izmir. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) reported at least 20 aftershocks.
In June, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake caused one death and 69 injuries in southwestern Turkey. The region is still recovering from the devastating 2023 earthquake.
