Uruguayan drug lord, Sebastián Marset, has been arrested in Bolivia and extradited to the United States. Marset, who had been evading capture since 2023, is accused of shipping at least 16 tons of cocaine to Europe.

The arrest took place in the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, following an operation by Bolivian police forces. US authorities had offered a reward of $2 million for information leading to his arrest.

Marset is allegedly the head of one of the largest drug trafficking networks in Latin America and is considered the mastermind behind the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in 2022. He had invested in various sectors, including sports and entertainment, even acquiring a local football team in Bolivia.

Marset's arrest comes at a time when Bolivia ranks third in the world for cocaine production.
