Dog in Catania Trained to Illegally Dump Trash

In the San Giorgio area of Catania, Sicily, municipal authorities recorded an unusual incident: a dog was trained to illegally dump trash. The dog was seen wandering the street holding a bag of garbage and leaving it on the sidewalk.

Authorities confirmed that the animal had been trained to dispose of the garbage so that its owner could avoid surveillance cameras. The Catania municipal authority commented that ingenuity is not an excuse for antisocial behavior.

The dog's owner was identified and fined. Illegal waste disposal is a problem in Italy, with a 66% increase in violations in 2023.

Municipal authorities are using surveillance cameras to identify offenders, with fines ranging from 1,500 to 18,000 euros.
