Meloni vs Opposition Over Tourism Season: High Prices and Low Wages

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is in a dispute with the opposition regarding the course of the tourism season. The reason was the decline in domestic tourism, with hoteliers and entrepreneurs reporting a decrease of 15% in seaside resorts and up to 25% in popular destinations such as Calabria.
Meloni accused the opposition of spreading false news to attack the government, arguing that tourist arrivals have increased according to data from the Ministry of Interior. The secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein, replied that Meloni should address the Italian families who cannot go on vacation due to low wages and the increasing cost of living.
Tourism entrepreneurs insist that the problem lies in the reduced purchasing power of Italians, which is not offset by the increase in foreign tourists.
