Turkey: Devastating Wildfires – Evacuations and Damage

The images of destruction from the wildfires in Turkey are horrific. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to ashes, and according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, over 50,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in Izmir, Bilecik, and Hatay.

In Bilecik, 64 houses, three workplaces, and 20 barns were damaged. Additionally, 132 houses and one workplace were damaged in Izmir. Aerial photographs show destroyed houses and burned forest in the Seferihisar area of Izmir.

Firefighters continue to operate with ground and air assets in the forest fires in the Seferihisar area of Izmir and Gazipaşa in Antalya. A total of 77 fires have broken out in the last 24 hours, with firefighting forces battling on multiple fronts.

The situation in Izmir is nightmarish, with several houses completely destroyed.
