Turkey: Expert Warns of 6.1R Earthquake – Potential Stress Transfer

Geological engineer-geophysicist Dr. Osman Bektas warns about seismicity in Turkey, following the 6.1R earthquake that occurred on Saturday. He pointed out that the "Usak complex" concerns the same fault that caused the 7.2R in Gediz in 1970.
Dr. Bektas also warned about seismicity in the Sea of Marmara, explaining that the stresses that caused the earthquake will continue to develop. The tremor occurred in the area of the "Usak earthquake complex." In May, he had warned about the Simav fault line.
According to him, offshore faults cause earthquakes smaller than 7 Richter, while onshore ones cause larger ones. He predicted that the earthquake complex will expand towards Manisa – Izmir, Aydın-Muğla, and Isparta, Afyon, due to the continuous deformation of the Aegean.
