Two 18-year-olds died in Germany on New Year's Eve while setting off fireworks. The accidents occurred in different locations near the city of Bielefeld, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

One teenager died at the scene in the Baumheide district, while the second succumbed to his injuries in a hospital after an incident in the Brake district. Police announced that there were eyewitnesses and no other person was responsible.

In addition, a 14-year-old was mutilated in Rödelich, near Rostock, due to a firework explosion. In Berlin, five people were hospitalized with firework injuries, while in Leipzig a 16-year-old lost a finger from a makeshift firework.

In Germany, the use of fireworks is only allowed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Experts draw attention to the dangers of their use, as they often lead to serious injuries.

According to statistics, an average of 530 people are admitted to hospitals every New Year due to accidents with fireworks.

Police, doctors, ecologists and animal rights activists call for a ban on the sale of fireworks every year.
