Belgian Seller Explains Removal of Kaisariani Executions Photos from eBay

The Belgian company «Crain’s Militaria» explains why it removed from eBay the photos purportedly depicting the execution of 200 Greek resistance fighters at the Kaisariani Shooting Range on May 1, 1944.
According to the Belgian seller, the company was shocked by the damage caused to the Kaisariani monument. Numerous collectors expressed interest in acquiring the photos; however, no decision has been made regarding their sale. The seller emphasizes being open to dialogue with the competent Greek authorities.
Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stated that the Ministry of Culture has initiated procedures to acquire the photos, provided their authenticity is verified.
Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis announced Parliament's intention to attempt to purchase the photos, provided there is no impediment from international law.
The Belgian seller stated: "I fully understand that these photos have a sensitive historical character and I was deeply shocked by the damage caused yesterday to the Kaisariani monument."
The first person reportedly identified is Vasilis N. Papadimass, an engineer from Messinia.
