VIDEO: Historic Church Tower Collapses in Amsterdam Fire

The tower of the Vondelkerk church in Amsterdam collapsed early Thursday morning after a fire broke out shortly after midnight. Parts of the top of the 154-year-old church had already collapsed after two hours of fire.
Surrounding houses were evacuated as a precaution as the fire sent ash and pieces of wood flying. Firefighters warned residents by ringing doorbells. The fire was likely caused by fireworks thrown by groups of youths.
The Vondelkerk church was built in 1872 and functioned as a church until 1977. Since then, it has been used for special events.
