North Macedonia: State of Crisis in Electricity Production Due to Greek Blockades

The government of North Macedonia has declared a "state of crisis" in the electricity supply throughout the country due to difficulties in the supply of mazut. The decision is attributed to blockades imposed by Greek farmers at the border, affecting the smooth supply of energy resources.
The state-owned electricity production company "ESM" had requested the declaration of a state of crisis in order to utilize state reserves of mazut and ensure energy sufficiency. ESM will transfer the reserves without compensation and will submit a report to the government regarding consumption.
The measure will last for seven days, during which state mazut reserves will be used. Most of North Macedonia's electricity production comes from ESM units, which use lignite and mazut.
