Four miners have been recovered dead from the El Teniente copper mine in Chile, following a tunnel collapse. One miner is still missing, and search efforts continue under difficult conditions.

The tunnel collapsed after seismic activity, possibly due to underground drilling, according to Codelco President Máximo Pacheco. The El Teniente mine is operated by the state-owned company Codelco and has 4,500 kilometers of tunnels.

In addition to the fatalities, nine workers were injured. The metallurgical industry in Chile is considered one of the safest in the world.
