Chile: All Five Missing Miners Found Dead – Three Days of National Mourning

The five miners who had been missing after a tunnel collapse at El Teniente, the world's largest copper mine in Chile, have been found dead. The announcement was made by the prosecutor's office of the O'Higgins region.
The bodies were found at the site of the collapse, which was caused by a "seismic event." An investigation is underway to determine whether it was a natural tremor or a result of mining operations.
CODELCO President Máximo Pacheco promised a full investigation into the tragedy. Chilean President Gabriel Boric declared three days of national mourning and visited the area.
Operations at the mine have been suspended. El Teniente produced 356,000 tons of copper in 2023, contributing 6.7% of Chile's total production.
