Fires Subsided in Achaia, Preveza, Chios and Zakynthos

The situation is improved on all fire fronts in Achaia, Preveza, Zakynthos and Chios, following an overnight battle by the fire services. According to Fire Service spokesperson Vasilis Vathrakogiannis, there is no active front in Zakynthos and the Gymnotopos area of Filippiada, where scattered outbreaks are being dealt with.

In Achaia, the fire is active in the area from Keraies to Romanos, while in Chios the fire is raging in inaccessible locations, near the settlement of Parparia. The fire in Xirochori, Ilia is receding. Fire services remain on general alert due to the very high risk of fire.

Air assets have been allocated to extinguish the fires in the affected areas. Efforts continue to open firebreaks, with the assistance of earthmoving machinery, mainly on the outskirts of Filippiada.
