US Unemployment Claims at Lowest Levels Since 2025

Unemployment claims in the US have fallen to one of the lowest levels of the year, according to data released by the US Department of Labor on Wednesday.
Initial claims decreased by 16,000 to 199,000 in the week ending December 27. This is lower than economists' estimates in a Bloomberg survey.
The four-week moving average of initial claims rose to 218,750. Continuing claims fell to 1.87 million in the previous week.
The US has seen sluggish hiring for most of this year, which has affected Americans' views on employment prospects. The unemployment rate has risen, while layoffs remain relatively limited.
Before adjusting for seasonal factors, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan recorded more applications, while Texas and California recorded fewer.
