Bulgaria: Euro entry and impact on Greek businesses

Bulgaria is expected to become the 21st member of the Eurozone on January 1, 2026. However, political instability in the country, with the resignation of the government in early December 2025, raises concerns.
Christos Kazantzis, president of the Hellenic-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, states that the immediate benefits of reducing the economic and bureaucratic burden are offset by the prolonged political crisis.
Joining the Eurozone could boost trade and tourism by reducing transaction costs. Nevertheless, political uncertainty threatens economic growth and the attraction of foreign investment.
