Approximately 40 countries participating in a teleconference chaired by Britain have called for the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. They also agreed to consider economic and political measures, including sanctions, to put pressure on Iran, according to the British Foreign Secretary.

Yvette Cooper stated that Iran is trying to hold the global economy hostage in the Strait of Hormuz, and this should not be allowed. The partners called for respect for the fundamental principles of freedom of navigation and the law of the sea.
