US Senator Wicker Arrives in Taiwan

Roger Wicker, head of the powerful US Senate Armed Services Committee and a strong supporter of Taiwan, has arrived in Taipei. He was received at Songshan Airport by Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi.
Although the US government does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, it remains the main supplier of military equipment and supporter in international forums, keeping open the possibility of military defense. Issues concerning Taiwan are causing tensions with China, which considers Taiwan a breakaway province.
