Armenia and Azerbaijan have publicized the text of a peace agreement mediated by the United States, committing to respect each other's territorial integrity and formally end nearly four decades of conflict.

The agreement was reached in Washington, where Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with US President Donald Trump.

According to the text, Yerevan and Baku are renouncing territorial claims, pledging not to use force, and to respect international law.

The European Union, Turkey, and Russia welcomed the agreement. The agreement prohibits the deployment of third-country forces along the borders.

An obstacle to peace is Azerbaijan's demand that Armenia change its constitution. Pashinyan has called for a referendum to change the constitution.

The US has acquired rights to develop a strategic transport corridor in the region.
