Avramopoulos Opposes Sending Warships to Libya Over Migration

ND MP Dimitris Avramopoulos expressed his opposition to sending Greek warships to Libyan territorial waters to stem migration flows. Speaking on Action24, Mr. Avramopoulos argued that such a move entails risks and could lead to a new tragedy like Pylos, for which Greece would be held accountable.
Mr. Avramopoulos stressed that Greece has contractual obligations to the EU and international humanitarian law, which do not allow the interception of boats and pushbacks. He also blamed the Haftar side for not complying with agreements and sending migrants to Greece.
Referring to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' statement about sending ships to Libya, he questioned whether Greece wants to follow Orbán's policies.
