Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed as the new head of the Revolutionary Guards, succeeding Mohammad Pakpour, who was killed on February 28.

Born on June 27, 1958, Vahidi previously served as the head of the Quds Force, the external military unit of the Guards.

He is accused of involvement in bombings against the Israeli embassy and the AMIA Jewish community center in Argentina in the 1990s. In 1992, an attack on the Israeli embassy resulted in 29 deaths. In 1994, the AMIA attack left 85 dead and 300 injured.

Argentina and Israel have long suspected Hezbollah of carrying out the AMIA attack at Iran's request. In 2024, an Argentine court accused Iran of the attack, calling it a 'terrorist state'.

Vahidi has been wanted by Interpol since 2007. He served as Iran's Interior Minister from 2021 to 2024.
