Dendias Responds: Greece Will Defend Its Sovereign Rights

The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, responded to statements made by the Turkish Ministry of Defence from Samos, stressing that Greece does not threaten but is determined to defend its sovereign rights.
Mr. Dendias stated that Greece has not expressed revisionist rhetoric nor has it made territorial claims against any neighbor, and has not issued a threat of war. However, it is determined to defend its sovereignty and sovereign rights, as defined by the Constitution.
Mr. Dendias' statements were in response to claims by the spokesperson of the Turkish Ministry of Defence, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, who stated that Turkey is not escalating tensions in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, but instead seeks cooperation and stability in the region.
Mr. Aktürk also claimed that Turkish flights in the Aegean are conducted in international airspace and that Turkey is willing to resolve all issues with Greece peacefully, through dialogue and negotiation.
Nikos Dendias exchanged wishes with the Armed Forces personnel in Samos.
