International Reactions to Maduro's Arrest: Calls for De-escalation

The arrest of Nicolás Maduro has triggered international reactions, with countries such as Russia, China, and EU member states calling for a de-escalation of tensions in Venezuela.

Russia has called on the US to release the Venezuelan president, describing him as legitimately elected. Simultaneously, China and Mexico condemned the US military operation.

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated that she does not consider Nicolás Maduro the legitimate leader of Venezuela.

Spain appealed for de-escalation and respect for international law, while offering to mediate for a peaceful solution. The German Foreign Ministry expressed concern and announced the convening of a crisis response team. The Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, stated that Rome is closely monitoring the situation, with emphasis on the Italian community in Venezuela.

AntĂłnio Costa, head of the European Council, stressed that the EU calls for de-escalation and resolution of the crisis with respect for international law.
