Politico Poll: Fears of World War III on the Rise
Share on:

In a Politico poll, citizens from the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany expressed the belief that the world is heading towards a World War III. The majority of respondents believe the world is becoming increasingly dangerous.

Americans, Germans, French, and British people consider the outbreak of a new world war more likely than unlikely within the next five years. In the United Kingdom, 43% believe it is 'likely' or 'very likely' that a new world war will break out by 2031, while in the US the corresponding percentage is 46%.

However, the poll recorded a reluctance to make sacrifices to finance more military spending. While there is support for increasing defense budgets, this support decreases when the issue of increasing public debt, cuts in other services, or tax increases arises.

Russia is considered the greatest threat to peace in Europe, while Canadians consider Trump's America to be the greatest threat to security.
