Yellow Sea Standoff: US and Chinese Aircraft Face Off
American F-16s encountered Chinese fighter jets in the Yellow Sea, in international airspace where the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone meets the Chinese one. The incident occurred on Thursday, according to military sources.
Beijing reacted immediately when the American aircraft approached the Chinese zone, sending its own fighters. Despite the tension, neither side violated the other's national air defense zone.
Military analysts interpret the US move as an attempt to limit Chinese influence. US Forces Korea (USFK) emphasize "strategic flexibility," extending their role to contain China.
The South Korean Ministry of Defense stated that it cannot confirm details of USFK operations.
China, through the Global Times newspaper, reported that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) mobilized forces for surveillance.
On the 16th and 18th of the month, joint exercises were held with the participation of Japanese and American aircraft. On the 16th of the month, Japan intercepted a Russian aircraft in the East Sea.
