EU-Syria: €620 Million Support Package for 2026-2027

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa visited Damascus, inaugurating a renewed bilateral cooperation between the EU and Syria. The two officials met with the transitional President of Syria, Ahmed al-Saraa.
The cooperation is based on three pillars: a new political partnership, strengthening trade, and financial assistance. In this context, a financial package of approximately €620 million for the years 2026-2027 was announced, which will be directed towards humanitarian aid and recovery.
Ursula von der Leyen stated that there is hope for a new Syria, while António Costa assured of the EU's support for the democratic transition, emphasizing that the fall of the Assad regime opened a new era of hope.
The EU has provided support of over €38 billion to Syria since 2011.
