Investigation Against Özgür Özel for Statements Against Prosecutor

A prosecutorial investigation has been launched against CHP leader Özgür Özel regarding statements he made against the Istanbul prosecutor. This is the latest in a series of investigations and lawsuits against Özel, following the arrests and dismissals of 16 mayors from his party.

The investigation concerns Özel's statements against the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor at a protest rally after the arrest of Mayor İnan Güney on August 15, as part of corruption investigations. Özel referred to a "gang" and a "black stain" and stated that he would "break the head" of the prosecutor.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor, Akın Gürlek, has played a significant role in the prosecution of opposition figures, including the conviction of Selahattin Demirtaş.

Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç called Özel "bankrupt" and urged him to follow the path of honest politics.

The investigation follows a lawsuit filed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, seeking compensation for moral damages amounting to one million lira.
