The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman, appears to be securing a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the summer of 2024. According to television projections, the BNP has already secured more than 150 seats, necessary for an absolute majority in parliament.

Two television networks reported that the BNP is securing 197 out of 300 seats, while the alliance under the Islamists of Jamaat-e-Islami has 63. BNP spokesman Mahadi Amin stated that the party will form a government. The head of the BNP predicted that he would undertake the task of rebuilding the country.

Sheikh Hasina left the country in August 2024, following mass demonstrations and riots.
