Refugees Flee Kenyan Camp Amid Food Shortages

Over 6,000 South Sudanese refugees have left one of the largest refugee camps in Kenya since the beginning of the year, due to funding cuts in international aid and subsequent food shortages. The Kakuma camp hosts approximately 300,000 people from South Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, and Burundi.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that since January, about 6,200 refugees have left Kakuma and Kalobeyei. Aid cuts have led to protests and unrest, as the World Food Programme (WFP) has been forced to reduce food rations.
An official from the refugee services (DRS) stated that refugees are returning to South Sudan due to the categorization of food aid, leaving many without food.
