Incident at Agathonisi: Warning Shots Fired at Turkish Fishing Boat

A serious incident occurred at Agathonisi on November 18 when two Turkish fishing boats entered Greek territorial waters. According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the boats were fishing in the area, accompanied by two Turkish Coast Guard vessels.
Three patrol boats of the Hellenic Coast Guard rushed to the scene and issued repeated warnings to the Turkish vessels, without effect. One Turkish fishing boat performed dangerous maneuvers, risking a collision with a patrol boat.
The crew of the patrol boat fired warning shots, according to the rules of engagement. Subsequently, the Turkish vessels withdrew from Greek territorial waters.
