Nobel Committee: Prize 'Linked' to Laureate Despite Trump Donation

The Nobel committee has reiterated that the prize is 'inextricably linked' to the laureate, following the donation of part of the Nobel Peace Prize by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado to former US President Donald Trump.

In a statement, the committee stated that 'regardless of the fate of the medal, diploma or prize money, the original winner is and remains the one recorded in history as the recipient of the prize.'

The White House published a photo of Trump holding the medal, and an official confirmed that the president intends to keep it.

The Nobel Committee emphasized that there are no restrictions on what a laureate can do with the medal, diploma or prize money, and they are free to keep, gift, sell or donate it.
