Friedrich Merz: Russia's 'Exhaustion' Will Bring End to War

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes the war in Ukraine will only end with the military or economic exhaustion of Russia.

In an interview with the Rheinpfalz newspaper, Mr. Merz stated that logic and humanitarian arguments will not convince Vladimir Putin.

Consequently, European efforts should aim to make the Russian state unable to continue the war militarily and economically.

Mr. Merz argued that Russia's 'ruling clique' cannot survive without war and must keep the war machine running.

According to the Chancellor, Russia is in a state of deep barbarism, which will not change in the foreseeable future.
