Gerapetritis at UN Security Council: Peace in Middle East is Imperative

Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis participated in an open session of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
Mr. Gerapetritis stressed that Greece remains committed to cooperation with the members of the Security Council, highlighting the UN's role as a central framework for international peace and security. He reiterated Greece's commitment to respecting the UN Charter and territorial integrity.
Referring to the Middle East, the Minister described peace as an "imperative ethical, political, and humanitarian necessity." He noted Greece's support for Resolution 2803 and the "20-point Peace Plan for Gaza," while emphasizing the need for the complete disarmament of Hamas.
Furthermore, he stressed that Gaza and the West Bank constitute a single territorial unit for a future Palestinian state and called for a credible political process for a two-state solution.
Regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza, he pointed out that access to humanitarian aid must be unimpeded and expressed concern about developments regarding UNRWA.
Finally, he referred to Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, emphasizing the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
