France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have officially triggered the ā€œsnapbackā€ mechanism against Iran, notifying the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and the President of the UN Security Council in a letter.

In the letter, dated August 28, 2025, the three countries (E3) emphasize that Iran is in ā€œmaterial non-complianceā€ with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA).

The three European countries clarify that they are acting ā€œin their national capacity as participating states in the JCPoA,ā€ in accordance with paragraph 11 of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015).

Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, welcomed the decision, emphasizing Israel's concerns about Iran's ā€œmalicious intentions.ā€
