France, Germany, UK trigger āsnapbackā mechanism against Iran

France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have officially triggered the āsnapbackā mechanism against Iran, notifying the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and the President of the UN Security Council in a letter.
In the letter, dated August 28, 2025, the three countries (E3) emphasize that Iran is in āmaterial non-complianceā with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA).
The three European countries clarify that they are acting āin their national capacity as participating states in the JCPoA,ā in accordance with paragraph 11 of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015).
Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, welcomed the decision, emphasizing Israel's concerns about Iran's āmalicious intentions.ā
