France: EU has tools to respond to US tariffs, says French Minister

French Trade Minister, Nicolas Forissier, told the Financial Times that the European Union has the necessary tools to respond to the United States regarding the imposition of new tariffs. Forissier called on EU member states to adopt a common approach, considering imposing an additional 10% customs charge on imports, in response to Donald Trump's decision.
The minister stated that he is in discussions with his EU counterparts and the European Commission regarding Trump's decision. "If necessary, the European Union has the appropriate tools," Nicolas Forissier emphasized.
French officials stated that it is too early to speculate on the EU's response, but options include the 'trade bazooka' and the EU's Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI), which could target American technology companies. The ACI allows for export controls, tariffs on services, and the exclusion of American companies from EU supply contracts.
In addition, there is a package of retaliatory tariffs of over 90 billion euros on American products. Forissier stressed that Trump's threats have strengthened EU unity, but the bloc must be ready to retaliate, using all available tools.
The European Parliament will discuss postponing the ratification of the trade agreement with the US.
