Germany Calls for "Fundamental Changes" in Gaza

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized the need for "fundamental changes" in the Gaza war, describing the situation for civilians as "unbearable." He announced a Berlin initiative for talks with Arab states.
Wadephul stated that the international community is facing challenges and German involvement is necessary. He noted his daily communication with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, and Israel's increasing isolation.
The German minister called for pressure on Hamas and urged countries with good relations with the organization, such as Turkey and Qatar, to contribute to achieving a ceasefire.
Regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state, Wadephul reiterated that Germany rejects the possibility, considering it should be one of the last steps in the negotiation process.
Wadephul will brief Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the Cabinet on his visit to Israel and the West Bank.
