Germany: Potential Troop Deployment to Ukraine for Security Guarantees?
Share on:

Germany's stance on security guarantees for Ukraine remains uncertain, as the possibility of sending troops to Ukrainian territory is being considered.

Christian Democratic Chancellor Friedrich Merz left open the possibility of Germany sending troops to Ukraine as part of future security guarantees, stressing that he would put the matter up for discussion.

For his part, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany's contribution to possible security guarantees remains open, while Thomas Revekamp, head of the Defense Committee of the German Parliament, expects a deployment of German troops as part of a peacekeeping mission.

If Germany decides to participate in such a mission, it would mark a historic shift. Russia is considered the greatest security threat to Germany, while security guarantees for Ukraine are seen as security guarantees for Europe and Germany.

The issue of a possible peacekeeping mission is also being discussed in Paris and London.
