Austria has agreed to the new sanctions package against Russia, removing a key obstacle ahead of a vote next week, Reuters reports.

EU Foreign Ministers will meet in Luxembourg to finalize the agreement on the nineteenth package of sanctions against Moscow.

The package was initially frozen due to Austria's demands for the release of Russian funds to compensate Raiffeisen Bank for fines in Russia. However, Austria shifted its position and supported the sanctions, with the Foreign Ministry stating it would approve the package to maintain pressure on Moscow.

The new sanctions include accelerating the ban on Russian liquefied natural gas from 2028 to 2027.
