The European Union has expressed "serious doubts" about the "Council for Peace" founded by US President Donald Trump, particularly regarding its compatibility with the United Nations (UN). This was emphasized by the President of the European Council, António Costa.

Mr. Costa stated after an extraordinary meeting of the 27 in Brussels that there are doubts about the charter, scope, governance, and compatibility of the Council with the UN.

Spain rejected the invitation to participate, as stated by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Similarly, France also refused, deeming the body incompatible with its commitment to the UN. Britain avoided the signing ceremony due to the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as announced by Mr. Trump.

Donald Trump presented the "Council for Peace" in Davos, with the participation of approximately twenty national leaders.
