Hungary Blocks EU's 20th Package of Sanctions Against Russia

Hungary has vetoed the EU's 20th package of sanctions against Russia, prompting disappointment from EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas. Ms. Kallas expressed regret over the failure to reach an agreement, stressing that it sends an unwanted message.
Hungary's veto also extends to a €90 billion loan to Ukraine. Ms. Kallas hinted that the use of frozen Russian assets could be reconsidered if an agreement on the loan is not reached.
Ms. Kallas emphasized that EU leaders had previously agreed on the €90 billion loan and that reversing this decision is regrettable. Also, EU foreign ministers agreed to impose sanctions on more individuals for human rights abuses in Russia and to limit the size of the Russian mission to the EU to 40 people.
