The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly denied reports of its involvement in an attack on a desalination plant in Iran. The denial came in a statement from a senior official to the Jerusalem Post newspaper.

Initial reports suggested possible involvement of the Emirates in response to recent Iranian drone and missile attacks in the Gulf region. However, sources say that the UAE would not choose a political target for military involvement, but would focus on military installations.

At the same time, economic retaliation against Tehran is being considered. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the UAE is considering freezing billions of dollars worth of Iranian assets.

The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that the death toll from Iranian attacks has risen to four. Governments of Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain, also reported attacks by Iranian drones on their territory.

In an effort to de-escalate, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized to neighboring countries for the attacks on US military bases located in Gulf countries.
